The transformation from Mac’s work as Makeout Videotape to the lothario-like crooner was impressive, but “My Kind of Woman” shows a depth to DeMarco’s solo work I didn’t expect.
There’s a submission at play here that toes the line between lust and lap dog. DeMarco is no stranger to inside jokes and tongue-in-cheek humor, but these three-minutes feel honest, like words scribbled down just because the emotion/obsession needed to escape.
If “My Kind of Woman” is any indication, Mac DeMarco’s latest release – 2 – will float beautifully in a dream like state and offer an insight into what Mac’s all about. Or maybe this is just another joke to lure us all in. Either way, the longing and lusting sound great.
