It is Wednesday, and also the day after Halloween, so I’m sure most of us are a little groggy today. Be it from ingesting far too much candy, or from dealing with kids who were off the wall with the expectation of winning the candy lotto, most of us could likely use a sonic boot in the ass. The debut album from Halifax’s The Holy Snappers delivers just such a boot, with a vengence, and luckily for you it’s available for free right now.
The Holy Snappers are composed of two former members of local punk heroes The Cuban Assassins (RIP one of the best-ever names in Halifax music lore) but a quick listen proves they haven’t left their old band’s ethos behind. Purveyors of, in their own words, “loud, fast rock’n’roll”, their debut is a smash & grab mix of gruff, high energy vocals, speedy punk and angry, bluesy riffs. In other words, it’s a perfect antidote for a bland Wednesday, so go and get it.
