Cold Water sung songs of an unforgiving home. Fractured melodies, Stebner’s songs were as cold as the chains that kept us from leaving. The attachment, the nostalgia; the past usually wins out and keeps us stagnate.

This time around, Cold Water is bigger and warmer. They call themselves country, but the sound is not nudie suits, bar room stompers and Stetsons. It’s not the normal blues and sadness that force us to huddle together for support. No, this country is more Thoreau than Thorogood, forcing us to huddle tight for warmth. The country Cold Water represents is barren and lonely. The elements are harsh and survival, while a primal instinct isn’t a guarantee.

This is a fight. One wearing losing isn’t an option.
