It’s probably fitting that after penning one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time (just for your old memory box, the top choices are “Christmas in Hollis“, “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight)” and “Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis“), Matt Hart teamed up with Junior Boy Jeremy Greenspan to deliver an infectious summer anthem.

“Cochineal Red” slides nicely into the Russian Futurists catalog, but without question this song is more dance floor ready than previous efforts. Matt’s voice rides comfortably over the beat, but the chorus is an infectious, sonic escape. The song is not built around a familiar sadness or love; these four minutes are made for lust. It’s summer and if only for this night, we are free.

Last time out, Hart stepped away from the bedroom production he was known for and now, a track that could explode out of speakers as last call gets closer and closer as easily as it could your headphones, fits my dome like a 6 & 7/8″ New Era.
