HALIFAX REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY

Hey HRM, I am Fairview resident and I'd like to promote growth and prosperity in my neibourhood. Is it o.k if I do so, i.e, parties, signage, etc... Also at one time there was a sign on the Dunbrack Highway that showed the direction to Fairview. It has since been taken down in favour of a new road. I think that's unfair to Fairview and for those looking for Fairview. If possible could I have the sign, I am a long time Fairview resident, show us that you care.
Thank you for your time margreek@hotmail.com

Mr. Eleftheros,
Thank you for your email.
We have not been promoting destination signs for communities within the urban core of HRM. This, we believe, is a carryover from pre-amalgamation ('96). Areas such as Spryfield, Armdale, Jollimore, Rockingham and Fairview (as well as others) have neither "place name" nor "destination guide" signs. They became, we believe, part of generic Halifax at the time of Annexation in 1969. We would note that these communities are not identified on the HRM Official Place Name list and are not sure if there are definitive boundaries for these areas either. That is, at what point in the road does one leave Spryfield and enter Jollimore?
The one exception that we are aware of is on Trunk 3 (St.Margaret's Bay Rd.) at Northwest Arm Dr. where these various communities are identified on Guide signs. These signs were produced by others in error at the time of the connector ramp construction and funds were not allotted to correct the sign messages. We expect those corrections will be made during replacement of these signs in years to come. Yours truly,
Taso Koutroulakis, P.Eng.
Traffic Services Supervisor
