KANSAS TOURISM

Hi, I am from Canada and was planning a trip to Kansas. The only things I know of your country is the reference in "The Wizard of Oz"..."we're not in Kansas anymore..." Does that have any special significance? Anyway, I hope to come this summer, where is the best place to visit?
Thanks, Mario

Dear Mr Eleftheros....
The line in the movie "The Wizard of Oz," 'We're not in Kansas anymore,' is a poke at the stereo-typical perception of Kansas as being "colorless"..... i.e. boring, flat, uninteresting. The movie is black and white at the beginning and at the end..... while in Kansas. When Dorothy and Toto step out of the house, which has crashed down into the Land of Oz, the movie suddenly changes over to color... thus Dorothy's remark to Toto.... "We're not in Kansas (i.e. a dull, uninteresting place) anymore!"
Of course the problem with stereo-types is that they're not often true when one looks at the big picture. So I hope you're able to make it down to Kansas to make the decision of how "colorful" we are on your own!
A big help in deciding what to do/see would be getting a copy of the Kansas Getaway Guide. You can order it from the Kansas Dept of Commerce & Housing at:
http://www.travelks.org/guide.asp
Also... on the same site toward the top of the screen you'll find a couple links, POINTS OF INTEREST and TRAVEL ARTICLES. Click on these to read/see a bit more.
I hope this has been of help to you.
Sincerely,
Bill Sowers
