Cursed Arrows - One In The Blue

Clearly, Halifax duo Cursed Arrows are not ones to let moss grow beneath their feet, as they’ve managed to release two records this year with almost 2 months to spare. We’ve posted something on The Madness of Crowds, but nothing from Skin Behind The Shroud until now. One In The Blue sounds like a bit of a change from the duo’s past work but it’s great track and a good teaser for what their latest release has to offer.

Best-of ’11:: Each Other Taking Trips

Yesterday, my wife (and ultimately, the internet) shocked me by admitting she wasn’t a fan of the movie “Highlander.” Without question, I was slightly unsettled by the shocking dismissal of a sci-fi/action classic. I’ve watched that flick countless times, and one of the lines that I’ve quoted far too many times happens when Kurgan leaves [...]

A.A. Wallace - Bowie

Halifax electro ace A.A. Wallace has a new single out, and a plum gig coming up in a couple weeks opening for the currently much-buzzed-about Rich Aucoin during his hometown show at Reflections. So then, let’s post that new single, shall we? You can visit A.A.’s Bandcamp for a couple alternate versions of the song, but the funkdafied (word to Da Brat!) original version works for me.

HPX ’11:: Day Three Jamz

  So we’re a couple days into HPX 2011, and because we haven’t been out yet, we’ll quote our favorite uber-drunk Gus’ patron “What’s up with the music guys, IS IT AWESOME?” That’s more of a rhetorical question really, we know most of the shows have probably been awesome. Not awesome: the rain. As per [...]

HPX ’11:: It’s On!

In the words of our old pal O’Shea Jackson: Once again it’s on. The 2011 Halifax Pop Explosion begins today, and with an openning day lineup that is bigger than ever, Halifax’s biggest annual music event is starting it’s 19th year with a vengenace.   Of course, in true hill-ian fashion, we’re both busier than [...]

HPX ’11:: Skratch Bastid

So far I’ve tried to highlight a few of the HPX ’11 events that will satisfy those with a hip hop jones in their bones, but I’ve neglected to mention one particular evening dedicated to one of the 4 (traditionally, but now 5!) elements of hip hop: DJing. Thursday, October 20th you can hit the [...]

HPX’11:: The Daredevil Christopher Wright

At festivals, it’s usually the loudest chords, the whitest smiles and most charismatic, crowd consuming growls that get top billing. For HPX, it’s no different. With endless venues and as much start-to-finish talent as I can remember seeing since the early 2000s, making your nightly choices often comes down to names you know and the [...]

Re-Reviews:: Daniel Ledwell - Two Over Seven

This review was originally posted in 2008, but since he’s playing the Herohill showcase at HPX 2011, just got married, and is just generally a top class gentleman who has done the hill a number of solids, we are posting it again and encouraging you to check out Two Over Seven if it’s new to [...]
