The Balconies - 300 Pages

A brief hiatus in our attempt to post on every HPX act means we’re behind and need to make with the hustle. If you’re looking for some of the catchiest, female-fronted rock & roll you’ll find at this year’s HPX, you might want to check out Jacquie Neville and The Balconies when they play The Seahorse on Tuesday, Oct. 18th.

Bruce Peninsula - Salesman

We enter HPX song-posting double digits with a band returning to HPX, and also just happening to be herohill showcase alumnae: Bruce Peninsula. BP released the Bruce Trail Fire Sale EP earlier this year, and they have a new album, Open Flames out early next month, so it sounds like an excellent time to catch them live. Oh, and they were awesome at the HH showcase in ’09, so you’d be wise to catch them headlining the Bus Stop Theatre show on Saturday Oct. 22nd.

Braids - Lammicken

Chances are you know the deal with Braids, subject of our 9th HPX song-post. This MTL (via CGY) outfit has seen their debut album, Native Speaker, charm the pants off nearly everyone, and end up on the Polaris Short List to boot. Well if you’re ready to get your HPX experience off to an early start, you can see for yourself what the Braids fuss is all about when the play the Exclaim! showcase Tuesday, Oct. 18th at Reflections Cabaret.

Audrey & The Agents - Don’t Think Twice

We’re stepping back into the A’s for the 8th HPX act we’re posting a song from: Audrey & The Agents. Despite hailing from Halifax, Audrey & Co. are new to us, but I like what I hear from this loud, female-fronted quartet so you may very well see them on the hill again when their record is released. For now you can check out Audrey & The Agents starting things off at the Elephant & Castle Underground show on Saturday, Oct. 22nd.

Bonjay - Gimmee Gimmee

Bonjay! Here’s a fact, nobody doesn’t love Bonjay. I’m basing that generalization on what I’ve read in the past about the innovative duo comprised of Alanna Stuart and Ian “Pho” Swain, but we certainly enjoy the Bonjay here at the hill as well. They are the 7th post in our attempt to post on every HPX ’11 act, and our first foray into the B’s (caveat: we’ll be re-visiting the A’s at some point). If you’re looking to dance the night away on Thursday, Oct. 20th, make sure you hit the Seahorse to catch Bonjay headlining a certified pants-shaker of a night.

Rich Aucoin - Brian Wilson is A.L.i.V.E.

Stash your trumpet in a surprising place, grab your 3D glasses & your confetti cannon and get ready to par-tay down, because the 6th HPX ’11 act we’re posting a song from is non other than Halifax’s Rich Aucoin. It appears that Rich is eschewing his traditional festival stage or big room steez in favour of playing an early, all-ages set at the fairly amazing St. Mathews church, so get ready to worship all things neon and awesome as Rich and his Friends will no doubt crank things up a notch or 10.

Animal Faces - Forward Through

How about some post-hardcore? Toronto’s Animal Faces are making their way to HPX this year, and they mark the 5th song in our attempt to post one from every act playing this year. I’m not up on the hardcore so much, but Forward Through is a solid jam, and we’ll have to wait to see what bill they end up on (I was going to guess F-ed Up, but that seems way too obvious).

Amanita Bloom - Often In The Springtime

We head back to Quebec for the 4th entry in our HPX ’11 post-a-thon with MTL’s Amanita Bloom. They’ve got a bluesy, kind of throwback sound, and it’ll be interesting to see who they’re playing with. 4 down!

Adam & The Amethysts - Prophecy

Who’s up 2nd in our attempt to post on every HPX ’11 act? It’s Montreal’s Adam & The Amethysts! We love Adam & co, and there’s a rumour they might be playing the Herohill show case at HPX on Friday, October 21st. That’s a rumour we can get behind. Two down!
