Concerts:: City & Colour @ The Rebecca Cohn
With all the great shows that have happened in Halifax over the last few days (Plants & Animals, Tegan & Sara, The Wooden Sky, Blue Rodeo, and Luke Doucet to name a few) and the ones still on tap (Bahamas, John K. Samson, Jim Bryson) it's easy to forget about the fact City & Colour are playing a two-night stint here next week = one with Island poppers, Two Hours Traffic and one with NB folkers Olympic Symphonium.
The shows are sold-out, so unless you are scalp-happy you probably will not get a chance to see the band, but that doesn't prevent me from posting the boys sharing the stage with the one and only, William Elliott Whitmore. This live footage of One Man's Shame is classic, and makes me wish for a return tour by the band with William in tow.

Labor Days:: William Whitmore

To anyone that's ever gone through the first few moments of parenthood, I'm sure you've felt the pride, insecurity, terror and joy surge through your body. Our little man has a huge fight ahead of him, but for some reason these words from one of my all-time favorite artists makes me think everything's going to be OK.

File under holy sh%t:: William Whitmore covers Bad Religion

I can't stress enough how great Daytrotter is, so please visit the site and click on as many ads as you can because they give these songs away for free. For those not in the know, basically artists show up and play stripped down takes on tracks and usually offer up a fantastic cover to add the cherry to the musical sundae. After starting out with a few small sessions, Daytrotter has grown and grown and started pulling in terrific musicians on a daily basis. You should be heading over there on a daily basis.
