Other than casually seeing their name around, I knew nothing about Tennessee’s JEFF The Brotherhood before hearing they were playing HPX ’11. Turns out Jake and Jamin Orrall are another one of those loud, bluesy, garage rock duos we’ve seen fairly frequently over the last few years. I’ve only checked out a few of their songs tonight, but based on that small body of evidence I’m going to assume they will be pretty damn good live, so check them out at Reflections on Thursday, Oct. 20th.

MTL’s Reversing Falls are great. Don’t believe me? Just read what herohill.com had to say about them! RF have their self-titled debut LP coming out early next year, and they are part of a jam-packed lineup playing Gus’ Pub on Friday, Oct 21st during HPX. Things are finally coming up Fallshouse.

Halifax’s Jon Mckiel is ready to take over the world with his sludge-heavy, poetic jams. With the long overdue arrival of his new album — Tonka War Cloud — and the fact he’s playing the 1st ever herohill/kelp/Saved by Radio BBQ on the 21st @ The Company House, chances are October will be a big month for Mckiel.

We broke the seal on posting songs from the American acts playing HPX ’11 yesterday with a new one from the Juan Maclean, so why not keep the ball rolling with The Spring Standards? This NY-based trio has a very melodic, and musical sound, with each member being a multi-instrumentalist and trading vocal duties along the way. They should be fun to see live, and you’ll get two chances during the festival: Friday, Oct. 21st at CKDU and Saturday, Oct. 22nd at The Company House.

How about we give some of the American acts coming up for HPX some love shall we? “DFA dance-punk don” the Juan Maclean seems like as good a place to start as any, and since he just released a new b-sides & remix-type record, it’s also topical! Ol’ Juan will be doing a DJ set at The New Palace on Friday, Oct. 21st (at 2AM sucka, so get ready to par-tay until the wee hours of the morning) and if it’s all as funky as the jam below, it should be a crazy night.
