Between The Covers:: The Boss vs. Tegan & Sara

"The Boss" is of course the hip moniker for yer man Bruce Springsteen, or it would be if this were 1987. Does anyone still call Bruce the Boss? I have no idea. Anyway, the Ack is off gallivanting around the wilds of B.C. on this long weekend, so he asked me to fill in on this installment of between the covers. Luckily he picked two songs by artists of which I have zero opinion. I've heard very little Tegan & Sara and not much more Springsteen, but it seems The Boss is currently an influence du jour with people like the Arcade Fire (Antichrist Television Blues) citing him as an inspiration. So yeah, this should be fun, let's do this.

Essentially, this is a classic rock jam made even more classic by a video that features Bruce not only freaking the 80's arm swing funk, but also bringing a 15 year old boy that looks like Courtney Cox onstage to dance. What else to say about this one? I mean really, the E Street band, Max Weinberg and Clarence Clemons going for theirs? Not sure who could really dislike this. But how does it stand up against...

I have no idea where this is from, but it appears to be the Quin sisters covering the Boss classic in some kind of live venue. Even though it's a more stripped down version, it sounds pretty faithful to the original. It's quite good actually.

So which do I prefer? Well former herohill contributor Mike Roberts might find this fairly blasphemous, but as far as what I'd prefer to hear in the ole iPod, it's probably the T&S; version. But if we were comparing video versions, it would be a hands down victory for the Boss, regardless of what the ladies put together. See for yourself:
