Halifax Pop Explosion:: Featured Artist - Miracle Fortress

Herohill is pretty excited to be doing some exclusive coverage of one of Canada's biggest festivals (the fest as it's known around Hal-town), Halifax Pop Explosion. The insanity starts on Oct. 16 and over the next few weeks we will be doing some features on the big names, as well as some sleepers that you will want to check out.

While the full lineup hasn't been announced, artists that have played the HPE include, Arcade Fire, Ted Leo, Cat Power, Elliot Smith, Wintersleep, K’Naan, Sloan, The Hidden Cameras, The Organ, Broken Social Scene, Death From Above 1979, Les Savy Fav, Meligrove Band, Ron Sexsmith, The Constantines, Holy Fuck, Crooked Fingers, Hot Hot Heat, Joel Plaskett, K-OS, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, Buck 65, Jon-Rae the River, Pony Up, Classified, Julie Doiron, Fucked Up, Cadence Weapon, Peaches, Sixtoo, The Weakerthans, Neko Case ... well you get the deal.

Probably the act I'm most excited to see is Miracle Fortress. Graham Van Pelt has had a terrific year. His record - Five Roses - blew the collective minds of critics and fans alike. Don't believe us (read our review here)? Maybe these people will help change your mind:

Pitchfork - "Miracle Fortress' tracks can sound as much like cybernetic love songs as teenage symphonies, suggesting another influence on Van Pelt's studio exercise: fellow texture-lover Brian Eno."

I Heart Music - "Five Roses crosses the best parts of The Beach Boys and Yo La Tengo to create a must-have album."

You Aint No Picasso - "After having spent the past two months with Miracle Fortress’ Five Roses, the new solo album by Think About Life’s Graham Van Pelt, I can say that it’s one of my favorites to come out so far this year."

The beauty is... as good as he is on record, his live show is supposed to blow your mind. This is neck and neck with the Eric's Trip reunion gig as the most anticpated set of Explosion '07.
