News:: Free Great Lake Swimmers EP, and a lot more

Well in the most blogged about item of the week, Nettwerk record and the Great Lake Swimmers are giving away FREE music. It's a nice 5-song EP from a TO show, and it has Basia Balat and everyone's favorite D&D; violinist, Owen Pallett offering up their services.

Here are the Details:
Great Lake Swimmers: Live From the Church of the Redeemer EP

But that is not all. Nettwerk also teamed up with the Vancouver Sun to offer up a boatload of free music to people who might not ever hear about a few of their better bands - with the catchy title, Seriously West Coast Volume 1. Sure, some of the free music includes the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan, but I'll be the bigger man (avoid the obvious jokes) and talk about some of the great bands on the comp:

Josh Rouse - Hollywood Bass Player
Great Lake Swimmers - Your Rocky Spine
The Be Good Tanyas - Ootischenia
The Format – She Doesn’t Get It
Datarock – Fa Fa Fa

I could go on and on about how a major label is finally transitioning to the new model of music (labels like Secretly Canadian and Merge already offer up fans extra goods to draw them in), but the topic has been blogged to death. So I'll just tip my hat to Nettwerk and say thanks.
