Contest:: Autographed Copy of Buck 65's Situation

The festive season is upon us, and the giving continues here on the hill. Yesterday in honour of my birthday we gave away an assload of classic hip hop jams. I gave you some solid tracks that feature "33" in the lyrics, but the Ack trumped me by including Gangstarr's Militia in his post, which includes one of my top 5 favorite verses of all time. If you've never heard Freddie Foxxx kill it on that song, listen to it now. Freddie just sounds so hungry on that verse, everytime I hear it I expect him to bust into my cubicle, sock me in the grill and snatch the half-eaten sandwich out of my hand. "Gloria Gaynor on you motherf@ckers, I Will Survive". Honestly, who else can drop a Gloria Gaynor reference and still scare the bejesus out of you?

Anyway, let's digress and talk about another giveaway, which is also hip hop, yet of a completely different flavour. Although Buck 65 has the key to Mount Uniacke, which presumably gives him unlimited access to its streets, he doesn't much care for the streets in general:

When writing a song, considerations of hip-hop or street credibility never cross my mind. That being the case, no point of view, emotion, or instrumentation is off-limits for me. If I find an idea, memory, or emotion interesting enough to want to write about it, I just try to turn that into music in as clear and honest a way possible. – Buck 65

And you know what, that's ok. As long as he keeps making records as enjoyable as Situation (our review here), he should stick to whatever formula works for him. He should also keep the Bastid on his team too, as they make a fine team. Now, thanks to Mr. Terfry and the fine folks from Warner Canada, you can win an autographed copy of Situation. It's dead simple, just send us an email with Situation as the subject and in a couple weeks we'll pick a winner at random. Our email is over there on the right hand side, but I'll give you a hint, it starts with "herohill" and ends with "gmail". Easy peasy.

As another treat, I'll leave you with the winning entry from Buck's recent remix contest, an excellent version of Shutter Buggin' by Aupheus. Enjoy.
