News:: 2008 In The Dead Of Winter Festival

I mentioned this yesterday in my review for The Sleepless Nights new album, but I'll mentioned it again: music is often an invaluable aid in getting one though the darkest days of winter. The folks that put on the In The Dead of Winter Festival here in Halifax know this, in fact, unless I'm way off base, it's exactly why they put on the festival. This year's edition of the festival is shaping up to be a good one, with plenty of solid acts scheduled, both local and otherwise. The festival is taking place January 29 - February 2 at a few venues around the north end of Halifax. The full artist lineup can be found here, and the schedule here, but there's plenty of herohill favorites to be found:

Hayden, Jenn Grant, Jim Bryson, i see rowboats, Great Lake Swimmers, Grassmarket, The Olympic Symphonium....

That's just a small sampling of the artists that will be playing, but as samplings go, that is a good one. I'll be profiling a few of the artists/shows from the festival, and I hope to get out to a few of the shows myself. Unfortunately, unlike this past Halifax Pop Explosion, the Ack will not be flying down from Vancouver for this one, so you'll have to make do with my commentary only. Hope that isn't too disapointing. If you're going to be in Halifax at the end of this month, or can get to Halifax at the end of this month, this festival is worth venturing out into the cold for.

Rose Cousins is playing on the opening night of the festival (January 30th, Italian Cultural Centre) with In-Flight Safety keyboardist Dan Ledwell (who has a solo album coming out around the same time), and Halifax's i see rowboats. In my review of their excellent EP, I resolved to, umm, see, i see rowboats live, so this seems as good a time as any. I've also been meaning to give the Rose Cousins' beautiful voice and song-writing some run here on the hill, and this also seems like a good time for that. Enjoy.
