Slate Pacific

Fredericton’s Slate Pacific is a band I’ve mentioned a couple times here on the hill, so a new release from them is always a welcome development. The band has a new 10″ vinyl EP out now called Eccentrics and Young Professionals, and it just so happens they are playing here at The Seahorse tonight with The Grass and Quiet Parade (who have just recently released their own new, highly regarded album themselves)

As I understand it, the two songs on this EP were remnants of the sessions that produced their last release, Safe Passage, and they had intended this new mini-EP to be released shortly after (i.e. last year). Obviously it’s many months later, but no matter, I was a fan of Safe Passage, and I like Eccentrics as well. Like other SP offerings, it’s brooding yet melodic, settling into a satisfying, mid-tempo groove before shifting into overdrive in the last minute and change.

So go ahead and get yourself some limited edition vinyl if you’re interested, or check them out live at the Seahorse if you are in Halifax.
