The Burning Hell:: FLUX CAPACITOR

Last week you might have noticed a little blast of goodness on our twitterz. Sure, I might have made the rookie mistake of not filling the tweet with slogan laced hashtags or sending it to the major outlets for possible RTs, but it’s great news nonetheless. The Burning Hell - aka, ukulele troubadour Mathias Kom and an ever-evolving cast of characters - are about to release a new record.

For those familiar with Canada’s most impressive uke troop, you know that the band is not one to sit still physically or sonically. Kom has moved all across this great country of ours and with each stop he finds a new sound. Enlightened, sad clown? Check. Rocking, electronic laced, full band affairs? Check. Anywhere and everywhere in between? Well, you get the idea.

Now based in Newfoundland, Kom has a new iteration of the band and if the lead single, “My Name is Mathias” is any indication, they are ready to make you kick of your shoes and dance. The song recants Kom’s own personal journey, and the band pairs the biographical verses with a swinging big, band sound. Harmonies, horns, reeds, violin, and a a new found playfulness all fit Kom’s vocals like a well tailored suit. 2011 list makers, FLUX CAPACITOR has put you on notice.

MP3:: The Burning Hell - My Name is Mathias

Here’s the official details from weewerk:

Lately, THE BURNING HELL has been spending a lot of time thinking about death and time travel, and writing songs about both. Inspired by a high school creative writing teacher telling the class ‘write what you know’, with FLUX CAPACITOR the Burning Hell’s singer, songwriter and ukulele-slinger MATHIAS KOM presents a collection of danceable songs about aging, the late 1980s, big bushy beards and pet euthanasia. And pirates!

I’ve been enjoying this one a lot. Just when you start thinking there might not be a duet this time around…boom! It’s there and it’s a doozy.
