David Vangel - Breadth Control

Toronto producer/musician/multi-instrumentalist Vangel has added his given name to his musical moniker, and has recently released his debut full length album, Breadth Control on Berlin’s Equinox records. While that move may remove some of the mystery from his work, it doesn’t change the fact that he’s obviously a talented guy who makes some really interesting electronic music. Just have a listen to the first single below, Sandpaper Script, with its somewhat mesmerizing juxtaposition of skull-crashing drums and melodic synth & guitar riffs. It is obviously a complicated musical endeavor, with various layers, but the end product is incredibly listenable.

There’s also a Soundcloud megamix of the album below if you’d like an additional taste of Vangel’s work, but it certainly sounds like he’s upped his game since we last featured him on the hill. It’s clear neck-snapping drums appear throughout the album, but he uses vocal snippets and other touches to keep an almost light, etheral feeling throughout. It’s good stuff, and if you’re at all into electronic or instrumental music, you should hear this album.
